My Sound Healing Journey
My Story - the path to Healing
Fundamentally my path to sound healing was guided by many experiences - both my own and my loved ones. But the key inspiration was my youngest son, Kyle, who was born with significant physical limitations. His diagnosis was Cerebral Palsy at birth. There were many factors that contributed to the multiple physical limitations on him. Kyle was blind, had seizures everyday, and had no physical ability to care for or tend to himself. Yet, he was not without abilities which I could see even as a new baby … and I am continuing to understand more and more over time who he is.
Access to resources was very limited within the health care system when Kyle was growing up and the only solutions that were ‘allowed’ were drugs and surgery for the various challenges he faced. I was always looking for ways to assist him (as well as for my oldest son and myself) that didn’t cause so much pain and side effects. Requests for natural approaches were denied, discouraged and hidden … which is still the case today, but we have more access to information through the internet. Even supports to help us deal with the trauma and stresses we faced didn’t seem to be as available as they are now, although I had a few that still are profound for me today - reflexology, hypnotherapy and EMDR. Sound healing didn’t come into my life experience until Kyle was about 26 years old, 2 years before he passed. At that stage, after years of impacts from seizure control drugs, the tube feeding terrible diet and the cerebral palsy’s impact to his body - all that I could do was use it to help him be more comfortable and ease some of the tension. I sometimes wonder what could have been if cranial sacral, sound healing and CBD were encouraged by the doctors back then…
As a result of our experience I was very motivated to be part of creating more awareness and accessibility to options for people and encouraging inner sovereignty, each of us following our own guidance and inner knowing for our health along with assistance from professionals. I continue to be inspired to be part of creating options in our system to help myself and others live a more naturally healthy life, as well as integrate life experiences rather than holding onto ‘trauma’ because we don’t have the tools to process or integrate the experience, and come to balance and coherence within. We all have experiences - and we also all need ways that work for us to process and integrate, enabling us to function fully in our life, relationships and purpose here.
In my own youth, we grew up organically, for the most part, before that was a word I had heard about. We were outdoors a lot, worked very hard as part of the family business (sawmill) and the small farm where big gardens, wild berries, cows, chickens were key to our survival.
My Sound Healing journey began in January 2012 and continues to expand and develop still. It has been a great resource for me and many others I have had the privilege to witness.
As a business owner I keep reminding myself why I do this work: creating awareness of tools that support us in our life that don’t just deal with the physical body and symptoms but address stress, trauma and being out of tune with our true Self, that is usually behind physical issues. And most importantly to be part of creating a true health system that is more expansive and inclusive of all options, giving everyone choices where they can follow their own intuitive guidance on what they need at any given moment.
It is rewarding to see it begin to shift more and more - yet, still challenging as there continues to be skepticism. And all the funding is still mostly focused on drugs and surgery - the alternative medical approach. Those who choose to be proactive with their health have to fund it mostly out of their own pocket.
Sound and vibration have been used all through time as we know it - this is not new, not new age. I have been witness to a significant shift since I started in 2012, and so I continue. In memory of my son, who passed 10 years ago today - I continue.
In the progression of my journey, I completed a PhD as a Dr. of Natural Medicine in 2019. I simply love the Quantum physics, biology, medicine view and deeply want to be able to provide greater support and container for clients to heal.
My life is not perfect, I have challenges as much as anyone and have faced as many difficult experiences, but I appreciate the increasing abundance of options I now have to address challenges - whether minor daily issues / events or traumas from my own life or generational ones. There are so many resourceful people stepping into their gifts, and creating tools and systems - whether it is sound healing, breath work, reiki, cranial sacral, mediumship, etc. etc. to support us on our evolutionary path. There definitely seems to be a movement here in the Okanagan Valley with many practitioners and wellness centres opening up.
Thank you for listening - this is just a tiny glimpse into my journey and the influences in my life for the work I do. Blessings to you on your journey as you follow your intuition, your path.
